Cherryfield

While known as Salome in the Midwest, this variety was discovered in 1850 in Washington County, ME. In April 2022 we planted a Cherryfield in our front yard. Charles wanted to place 2 trees out front, and this lovely apple was one of my picks. The original Cherryfield from ME was still standing in 1907 but then “disappeared” for 100 years to be “rediscovered” in 2006. This all-purpose late fall apple is of medium size, conical, with a decidedly pink tinge. The flavour is mild and tart, very good for fresh eating, apple sauce, and pie.
