Roxbury Russet
Roxbury Russet
Believed to be the oldest American apple, dating from around 1649 in Roxbury, Massachusetts, the Roxbury is already a favourite in our orchard. The fruit is squash yellow and covered with sandpaper-like rough skin over much of the fruit. Ripening in October, these medium-sized apples, at 3 years in our orchard, are already plentiful on the tree. The flavour is extraordinary, sharp, sour, and sweet. We like them straight off of the tree, and they make lovely pies.
